Executive Functioning for Creative Kids and Teens

January 25, 2026 By Lori King

Helping Creative Minds Focus, Organize, and Follow Through

Executive Functioning for Creative Kids and Teens is designed for imaginative, artistic, and big-picture thinkers who struggle with focus, organization, time management, or finishing projects. This class helps students turn ideas into action—without squashing creativity.

Perfect for ages 9–14, this strengths-based program supports creative learners, neurodivergent students, and kids who think differently and need tools that actually work in real life.

Why Creative Kids Struggle With Executive Functioning

Creative kids often:

  • Have tons of ideas—but trouble starting or finishing
  • Hyperfocus on interests while avoiding less-preferred tasks
  • Feel overwhelmed by open-ended assignments
  • Struggle with time awareness and transitions
  • Know what they want to do, but not how to plan it

This isn’t laziness—it’s an executive functioning gap. These skills can be taught, practiced, and personalized.

What Kids Learn in This Class

Students build executive functioning skills through creative, hands-on activities that feel supportive—not corrective.

Core Skills We Practice:

  • 🎨 Task Initiation – starting projects without overwhelm
  • 🗂️ Organization – managing materials, ideas, and creative clutter
  • ⏱️ Time Management – estimating time and pacing creative work
  • 🧩 Planning & Sequencing – breaking big ideas into doable steps
  • 🔄 Flexible Thinking – adjusting when plans change or stall
  • 💬 Self-Awareness & Reflection – understanding how their brain works

Visual tools, optional templates, and real-life examples are used throughout.
